Today we enter/have entered (depending on where you’re) another year of the 21st century. Unfortunately, this is also the third year during which we must adapt to an evolving pandemic. The last couple of years have further established the unpredictability of life, and nature and the fact remains that we can’t really see much into the future.
For someone like me who likes to plan their life right to the minute (okay this is a slight exaggeration but you get my point), it’s really hard not to think and plan for the future, however unpredictable it may be. But here’s the thing. I know exactly what I want to do in the short-term (next few weeks) and what I want to do in the long-term (7–8 years down the line) but connecting the two bubbles seems so hard. I have been dwelling on this for sometime now. So, here’s my idea. We talk about short-term goals, we talk about long-term goals. Let’s introduce medium-term goals. Let these medium-term goals act as checkpoints/milestones in our journey towards our long term goals. I will expand on this in an article soon on my website.
For now, in order to test the idea of medium-term goals, I have decided to not set yearly resolutions/targets/goals but instead break it into quarterly resolutions/targets/goals. I will focus on the intermediate steps to achieve the bigger goals. Quarterly goals will also give me faster feedback. I will come back to you with the results of this experiment at the end of the first quarter of 2022.
Before I end this issue of the newsletter, I wish you a very happy, healthy, peaceful, and productive 2022. I hope the world recovers from the sufferings and setbacks of the pandemic and heads towards a better future.
