Hey,
I know it has been a while. The truth is I have been busy at work, with a new project. Also like most things that I do, I have been way too concerned about perfection than completion. This is one thing I want to work on in 2021 (more on that later).
With this, I plan to resume the newsletter on a bi-weekly basis and share with you awesome ideas I come across. So, in this issue of the newsletter we haveâŚ
One Thing I Learned
Conversations are like sex. When both parties are interested, they can be a lot of fun. But when you have to pay one party to engage in it, itâs not the same. - Neil Kakkar
Now to give you a little context. I started reading the famous Games People Play by Eric Berne. The book explores different ways to understand people via the conversations they have.
I am only halfway through this book but what a revelation it has been. Up until this point, I was convinced that I was a fairly straightforward person. But after reading attentively the many games people play, I found more than one in which I had been habitually engaging. What a shock!
Just to give you a basic idea of what this book is about: The term âgameâ refers to the behavior of individuals in a group, from the family up to the whole society, which is governed by certain rules. The rules are not necessarily conscious in the same way as we donât know the rules of our own mother tongue. In fact, most are not, but that doesnât hinder us from playing our games according to them. These games which we are âplayingâ in our lives are not really fun and delight as the term might suggest, although some are while many can lead to negative and even tragic outcomes.
I will write more about it after I am done reading.
One Product I Recommend
With all the things that go in our minds all the time, itâs no surprise that getting sound sleep is a problem most of us have faced. I came across this app which helps to â to fall asleep fast, stay asleep, and wake up feeling refreshedâ. Itâs called Pzizz. (I am not entirely sure how to pronounce it đ)
The app claims to use psychoacoustic principles to create beautiful dreamscapes that will help us fall asleep fast. When I further researched this app I found that âpsychoacousticsâ is the branch of psychology concerned with the perception of sound and its physiological effects. Pzizz talks about the science behind the app at a great length. If you are interested you can read it here.
From a product standpoint, I really like the following
Simple UI: The app is designed to help you sleep, nap, and focus. The UI conveys that in the most simple and straightforward fashion. (Note: Focus is a premium feature.)
Variable voiceover: Unlike other guided meditation/sleep-inducing apps I have used, Pzizz automatically changes the narration each time itâs used. Additionally, users can control the intensity of the voiceover.
You can give this a try and see if it helps you sleep better. If you feel like exploring a little more about Pzizz, check out their website and reviews.
One Question from the Readers
Did you learn a fun fact recently?
As a matter of fact, I did. This one blew my mind so brace yourself.
It turns out that if you click on the first link in the main text of a Wikipedia article, and then repeat the process for subsequent articles, 97% of the time you will end up on the Philosophy article.
This issueâs Bonus Section - My Website
On the first weekend of this year, my website went up. I created the website in an attempt to bring all my work on a single channel. Hereâs a snapshot of the homepage for you:
If you have a minute, I would love for you to check out the website and tell me what you think. đ
